The enchanting Lake Garda
Treasures Italy has in store are countless. Even an Italian usually visits just a little part of the beauties of his land. My aim indeed is to discover at least a new place every month. This time i had the fortune to visit the enchanting Lake Garda. This destination in Northern Italy has Lake Garda as its center of attraction but boasts many wonders that worthy a visit.
Lake garda is the largest lake in Italy in fact it spreads among three regions: Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige. This peculiarity confers even more charm to this place where like in a domino you will find several tiny and lovely villages each with things to see and to do.
Arriving for instance at Verona, from there you can rent a car or travel by bus or train to traverse all the lake coast crossing all the villages and little towns of the area. You will cross Garda, Malcesine, Navene, Sirmione, Peschiera del Garda, Limone sul Garda, Riva del garda and so on, and you will notice how each of this place has peculiarities and beauties that will make you feel like getting off of the bus at each stop to admire every single village.
Each one of these little villages and towns overlooks the majestic lake, unique in its genre as so wide to lose the sight of the other rivers and above all with the high mountains as frame on top of that. The lakefront called gardesana is very beautiful and allows you to take long walks and is ideal for runners, bikes or to relaxing picnics on the waterfront. But maybe you din’t know that this huge lake with a surface area of 369.98 km² and a max depth of 346 m is swimming. The water is so clear and is impossible to resist to take your clothes off and just plunge into it.
The lake attracts also many water sport lovers, from kitesurfing, windsurf and even scuba diving with clubs dedicated to it due to the big flow of people. Looking at the lake in fact you will spot plenty of boats, sailing boats and sails that decorate the lake. For the ones who love fishes, the Lake is quite rich, there you’ll find for instance the Salmo carpio, also known as the Lake Garda carpione, a rare salmonid fish endemic to Lake Garda.
Once there you have to visit at least some of the gorgeous villages located on the lake. Don’t miss the touristic but lovely Garda, offering many excellent restaurants, bar and alleys rich of traditional boutiques, or the more off the beaten path Malcesine, a real hamlet that seems a postcard. Here you’ll feel completely relaxed, immersed in the nature, mediterranean climate and adventurous atmosphere of the lake. Don’t worry, here you will find many excellent hotels, spas and facilities to make your holiday unforgettable.
Don’t miss also the numerous small islands and the five main ones of the lake with the typical shape of a moraine valley, the largest of which is Isola del Garda, where in 1220 St. Francis of Assisi founded a monastery, in its place now stands a nineteenth century building in the Venetian Gothic style
