Top 3 most Beautiful Italian Islands

From north to south, Italy is visited by millions of people for is artistic and natural heritage. One of its strong points are the huge treasures of every city and region, places that still preserve the greatness of the past: wonderful landscapes, the hospitality of the people and obviously the excellent food and wine culture. For these reasons, it is the only country that holds the world record of sites included in the World Heritage list by UNESCO (50 Italian attractions). But, there is especially one thing that everyone envies us, the variety of the beaches: sandy beaches, rocky beaches and black beaches that will leave you breathless.

Today we want to talk about the 3 most beautiful Italian islands, surrounded by three different seas.

Islands Paradise: Isola d’Elba (Tuscany)

Top 3 Most Beautiful Italian Islands

Elba is the biggest island of the Tuscan Archipelago and the third largest in Italy after Sardinia and Sicily. It is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, but in the north it is surrounded by Ligurian Sea and in the west by the Corsica Channel, that divides it from tehe neighbouring french island of Corsica.

To write about this island is very difficult. Isola d’Elba is an idyllic place thanks to its mix of pristine landscape and history. It Is famous all over the world especially for receiving French Emperor Napoleon in 1814 during his exile, but its history goes back to prehistory, with the Ilvati tribe from Liguria who named the island Ilva. Then it was inhabited by the Etruscans and by Romans, that left many archaeological and military traces.

Beaches are numerous and varied. Besides long sandy beaches you can find seasides with pebbles and amazing small coves, often hidden and rarely visited. It’s quite impossible to suggest which ones you should visit; they are all different and unique.

Cefalù (Sicily) 004

Islands Paradise: Sicily

Top 3 Most Beautiful Italian Islands

Sicily has had a very important role in the historical events of the Mediterranean. It is the biggest island of the Mediterranean Sea indeed and is surrounded by Tyrrhenian Sea in the north, and by Ionian and Mediterranean seas in the south-east, in an specific point where the 2 seas meet.

It has been dominated for a long time by different populations that have influenced every aspect of its culture and that have made it an island full of wonderful contrasts. According to the survey of “Condè Nast S.p.a”it is the third most beautiful island of the world, in regard to scenery, beaches and food of course. Sicily is a first class touristic spot also thanks to its lovely weather and its wonderful landscapes.

Besides, Sicily is very peculiar because it is a big island including numerous others small islands. In the north there are the Aeolian Islands: Lipari, Vulcano, Stromboli, Panarea, Salina and the most pristine and wild Alicudi and Filicudi. In the northern-western area there are the Egadi Islands: Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo with their clear water, and in the south, closer to Africa, the Pelagie Islands: Lampedusa, Linosa and Lampione.
