It Is famous all over the world especially for receiving French Emperor Napoleon in 1814 during his exile, but its history goes back to prehistory, with the Ilvati tribe from Liguria who named the island Ilva. Then it was inhabited by the Etruscans and by Romans, that left many archaeological and military traces.
Beaches are numerous and varied. Besides long sandy beaches you can find seasides with pebbles and amazing small coves, often hidden and rarely visited. It’s quite impossible to suggest which ones you should visit; they are all different and unique.
