ROME – Back from July 2 to September 8, the summer nights at Castel Sant’Angelo, 2013, the night of the event that opens the gates of majestic Castel Sant’Angelo to enable Romans and tourists visiting this extraordinary monument, through visits tours and concerts.

Over 40,000 is the number of those who participated in guided tours and concerts of the 2012 edition, a clear sign – says a note – the success of the event promoted by the Superintendence for the Historical-Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage and for the Museum of City of Rome, led by Daniela Porro and the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo, directed by Maria Grazia Bernardini, organized in collaboration with Civita and Munus.

From Tuesday, July 2 program every week includes daily free guided tours in English, Italian, French and Spanish in environments that are usually closed to the public: the Passetto, a long and impressive walkway of about 800 meters that connects the Castle to Vatican Palace, built on top of the walls that surrounded the citadel lion, the Prisons historic, narrow and dark cells which were used as prisons from the Renaissance until the nineteenth century, where they were segregated figures such as Pope Paul III Farnese, the Italian humanist Pomponio Leto, Benvenuto Cellini, known as Giuseppe Balsamo, Count Cagliostro, the Stufetta of Clement VII, a real jewel of architecture and decoration of the first half of the sixteenth century, it was the bathroom of the popes, one of the very few examples of Renaissance bathrooms.

In The Courtyard of the Crossbow, will be held free concerts of classical music, opera and jazz. The music program will present 38 concerts that range from baroque music to classical instrumental and vocal, until you get to the classics of jazz and the most famous film music.

From the entrance to the spiral ramp that leads through the impressive Roman cylinder, the heart of Hadrian’s mausoleum, you can go to admire the lavish decorations of the papal apartments of the Renaissance, stay in the elegant courtyards, explore the dungeons, walking from a bastion other on the Tiber, along Ronda and the March to the Terrace of the Angel, enjoying the best view of Rome.
