Rome’s foundation anniversary – XII edition

The “Gruppo Storico Romano” every year commemorates the origins of the city of Rome, from small settlement founded on the Palatine Hill by Romulus on 21 April 753 BC , it became the Caput Mundi. Despite various millennia have passed, Rome still arouses fascination and beauty in the world and the purpose of this festival, which this year falls on Easter Monday, is exactly to keep alive this global interest towards the city.

Reached its XII edition, Rome’s foundation anniversary, is a set of events and initiatives involving groups of about 1,600 historical celebrators, coming from 42 cultural organizations from 9 different European countries. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 am at the Circus Maximus with the Commission Feriarum, the ritual fire, followed by a parade that will cross Via del Teatro di Marcello, Piazza Venezia and Via dei Fori Imperiali, the Colosseum and that will end at the Circus Maximus with the great final battle between the legionnaires.

The Rome Birthday

In occasion of its birthday, Rome offers something special to its citizens and to the tourists that will visit the city. In fact, on Monday (April 21), Rome’s civic museums will be free. In addition, you can take part in the international project “Forum of Augustus. 2,000 years later, “made by Arts and Culture Councillorship together with Capitoline Cultural Heritage superintendence, which by a 3D video projected on the facades and on the pavement of the Fori Imperiali, will present the reconstruction of the archaeological sites as they appeared at the time of Augustus (from April 21 to October 21 2014, from Monday to Sunday, in 3 repeats at 9, 10 and 11 pm in 5 languages: English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Japanese).
