Rome found the lost temple on the Palatine
The Palatine, a real open-air museum in the heart of Rome, now has a testimony more to add to his already rich itinerary of the visit between old buildings. This may be the sacred area in which was located the first temple of Rome dedicated to Jupiter Stator, Jupiter Stator, the one who turned the calls for him to give the hosts the strength to resist.
The finding is due to a group of archaeologists from the University La Sapienza, led by Andrea Carandini (author of several other important discoveries, as always on the Palatine, those of the ancient walls in the eighth century BC. Surrounded the hill) and Paolo Carafa, illustrating the results of excavations in a report published in the journal “Archaeology Viva”.
According to tradition, the cult of Jupiter Stator dates back to the times of Romulus, when the deity would have allowed the victory of the Romans against the Sabines, in the battle of 750 BC, stopping the advance of the latter in the vicinity of Porta Mugonia.
The reliability of the discovery, to be ascertained with certainty, it would be credited, in fact, precisely the position of the sacred enclosure, situated between the Via Sacra and this ancient gateway to the city.
