Pope Francis went to pray to St. Maria Maggiore
Pope Francesco I arrived a few minutes after 8 AM in Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the main churches of the capital, which is located outside the Vatican. The Pope entered the church by a side entrance. Waiting for fifty people, most of them reporters and photographers.
After half an hour left Papa Francesco Santa Maria Maggiore, after praying in the Pauline Chapel of the Basilica, which is the image of the Salus Populi Romani which gives its name to Santa Maria Maggiore. The Pope was accompanied by the prefect of the Pontifical Household George Gaenswein, private secretary of Benedict XVI, and the vice-Father Leonardo Sapienza.
Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, at the side of the resignation by Pope Benedict XVI in his living room and from Emeritus at Castel Gandolfo, is prefect of the Pontifical Household.
The car is traveling on board this morning Francis Pope from the Vatican to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and return is the flagship of the fleet of the Vatican State. In fact it is not license plate SCV 1, but SCV 3578. This too is a novelty or curiosity of the new pontificate, together with the immediate decision taken yesterday evening out now in the city of Rome, if only for an hour or so there and back.
