Let's conquer Rome…the secret of the eternal city

Spring in Rome is dedicated to the discovery of archeology and its treasures. A series of itineraries, from March to May 2013, will lead visitors through the ins and representative of the ancient city: the artificial hill of Monte Testaccio, formed by the shards of amphorae that passed in the nearby river port on the Tiber, the Insula Romana in the ground Palace of Mirrors, where you can still see many environments brickwork on many levels, the complex late republican tomb of Scipio, the Auditorium of Maecenas, part of a large villa probably originally intended for banquets and events, and the Mausoleum Monte del Grano, magnificent tomb mounds considered one of the most impressive ancient and the Mausoleum of Lucilius Peto, dating to the first century BC, the Mitreo High Altar of Hercules, built in the third century. A.D. in a building of the previous century, the Virgin Aqueduct, the only one still in use among the ancients. And still other beautiful places such as the Ludus Magnus, one of the four barracks of the gladiators built to serve the Flavian Amphitheater, the Columbarium of Pomponius Hylas, one of the most interesting examples of cremation burial, and Port Asinaria, still viable on the Walls Aurelian.

The project is entitled “Secret Rome from A to Z” and is promoted by ‘Department of Cultural Affairs and Historical Center – Superintendent Capitolina, which aims to enhance the archaeological heritage of the capital by encouraging the involvement of the private sector (associations cultural cooperatives and companies).
