The work of James Tissot, for the first time in Italy, will be on display at Chiostro del Bramante, a major building located inside Santa Maria della Pace Church, ideated by the milanese architect Bramante at the beginning of the 16th century. French painter, after naturalized English, Tissot favors bourgeois feminine figures of that era, before parisian parties, after London elite. The elegance and the refinement of his subjects are not superficial, because Tissot carves deeply depicting the psychology of his women through glances and smiles. A style influenced by french impressionists and masters like Ingres and Flandrin, his teachers at Ecole des Beaux Arts of Paris. In this exhibition you will admire more than 80 works among which: The daughter of the warrior and The captain’s daughter.

From Renoir to Degas, from Manet to Cézanne, and also Monet, Pissarro, Bazille, in other words the main masters of French Impressionism of Musée D’Orsay shown at Complesso del Vittoriano, also known as the Altare della Patria, from October 15, 2015 to February 7, 2016. Impressionists. Tête-à-tête is a deep journey into one of the most influential tendency of the history of art between 19th and 20th centuries. Not only the works of the main exponents, but also the works of painters and sculptors influenced by this important art movement. In this exhibit you could appreciate the Impressionism peculiarities in describing the french society of that time and the advance of modernity. Besides, in this roman exhibition we could cherish the self-portraits of the artists themselves or portraits of well-known personalities, like writers and intellectuals, but also portraits of children in a section called “Ritratti d’infanzia”. Over 60 works depicting the everyday life and the changes of that time.

A retrospective entirely dedicated to Balthasar Kłossowski de Rola, better known as Balthus, will be shown at Scuderie del Quirinale and Villa Medici, the beautiful seat of the French Academy in Rome, from October 24 to January 31, 2016. The French painter of polish origin was one of the most important and controversial artists of the 20th century, enigmatic and ambiguous, and his work explores the sexuality of young girls painted in a style influenced by Pre-Renaissance artists and Surrealism. The exhibition, curated by Cécile Debray (Musée National d’Art Moderne-Centre Pompidou), is doubly remarkable due to the double venue, and will put on display more than 200 works. Scuderie del Quirinale section is focused on the creative universe and on the most famous masterpieces of the artist, Villa Medici one highlights the relationship between the painter and the Eternal City, showing the works created during his roman stay.
