Rome, after years of bigotry, has managed to take part in the circuit of street art world, hosting the works of the most famous street artists. The project carried out by 999Contemporary Rome, is based mostly on the choice of public art projects to realize in the city. The promoters of the event strongly believe that Rome, the city of art par excellence, is also ready to become a street art capital. This project aims to bring to Rome other important personalities of this world, often mistreated, but like other contemporary art forms, a concrete manifestation of cultural values, visible and liveable by everyone.

Avanguardie Urbane Roma Street Art Festival 2014

Has been conceived and promoted by the 999Contemporary and Roam, and developed by Stefano S. Antonelli. The event has been officially opened with the work of the German street artist Clemens Behr, who has chosen as “canvas” for his work, the Atac building (Rome’s public transportation department), next to the Metro Garbatella and right in front of the recent bridge that connects the district with Via Ostiense and the Gasometer. The visual impact is considerable; it is a geometric work that aims to embellish a drab building of the roman outskirts changing its face completely. A work of cultural and social reappropriation of a neighborhood space, once popular and now more open to modernity. The actions of the artists who take part in the festival will involve many historic districts. A route that, starting from Garbatella, in the months to come, will bring the redevelopment of other areas in the outskirts of Rome.

Avanguardie Urbane Roma Street Art Festival 2014 will lead to Rome, from March to July, more than 30 of the best Italian and international street artists for an event that officially will declare Rome the European Capital of street art.
The Festival, in collaboration with Roma Capitale and Macro (Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome) is planning an international conference on the future of the visual panorama of the city, at the museum in Via Nizza. In addition, a free exhibition will take place at the Macro Future of Testaccio, which from June to August will feature 12 of the most important french and italian artists in a comparative dialog between the languages of the new street art generation.
