Welcome to Rome 2012

There have been many articles i the foreign press on the subject of Rome, but I have been struck by one in particular because of the care, passion and originality with which it describes the city’s many characeristics and lesser known customs awaiting discovey. Kristina Velan, in an article published on june 19th in the British “Daily Mail”, sets out her diary of discovery titled ” Falling in Love with the Eternal City”. One part of the article gave me food for thought, the part where the journalist describes her inability to combine ancient and new, past with present and future. She paints an extraordinary image of an age-old city with a charm that is at once unique and magical, classical and unpredictable, and that never fails to astound.

Until september the streets, squares and parks of Rome are turned into an exciting, colorful stage for the Estate Romana 2012 program me of entertainment. There are plenty of events to choose from, something for every taste and all ages, with shows, concerts, music, dance, theatre, art, museums, open air cinemas, exhibitions, books and other events all over the centre and suburbs.

From the Colosseum to the banks of the Tiber, from Caracalla to the Globe theatre in Villa Borghese, from villa Pamphilj to villa ada, fro the casa del jazz to the casa del cinema, and from EUR to capanelle.

Rome is the ideal holiday destination, combining history, culture, art and entertainment. I wish you all a wonderful stay.

Our Mayor Giovanni Alemanno
