The lively summer nights in Rome

Summer nights in Rome. The big Italian cities in the summer are often empty and scarcely visited.

Many residents go on vacation and those who can not leave, take advantage of the weekend to get away even just fora few days. Generally, however, visit the empty cities in this period of the year is even more beautiful, apart from the hot temperature. Rome is one of those cities better to see when there are less people around, because it lets you enjoy more of the beauty and details of the its main attractions, the narrow streets of the center and the friendliness of the people.
Although the city is not crowded, it doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do, in fact, Rome liven up the summer evenings of those who remain in the city with a variety of shows, concerts and events around the city.

Let’s begin with an event on the banks of the Tiber River: Lungo il Tevere…Roma 2014 (www.lungoiltevereroma.it). In the area between Ponte Sublicio and Ponte Sisto (Trastevere district) from 15 June to 31 August, takes place the twelfth edition of the Lungo il Tevere…Roma, to enliven the evenings of the Roman highlighting the best of Italian culture: music, art, literature, photography, in the picturesque setting of the river. There are many initiatives scheduled, such as jazz performances organized by the School of Music in Rome; the “Tiber Theatre Festival” with a series of unreleased staged by young companies of the capital. Also presentations and exhibitions are completely free, including “Maniphesta RomaBruciAncora,” an exhibition designed to remember the famous fire of 64 D. C. attributed to Nero. The artists involved in this performance put on stage the event through sculpture, engraving, photography, installation, painting, music and video art.
In the year of the World Cup in Brazil, you can not miss an exhibition dedicated to the most popular sport in the world: “The history of the World Cup,” a photographic story of the best moments lived from 1930 untily now, curated by Fabio Argentines. All soundtracked by the music of “Cinebox,” a blast in the past through vintage movies that tell the story of the songs of the ’60s, transmitted from various video boxes along the banks of the river. And again seminars, courses and conferences organized by various associations related to topics of social interest such as disability, animal welfare, abortion and violence. But also stands of handicrafts, food and wine.

Summer nights in Rome: theater, opera and ballet:

The International Festival of Villa Adriana (Tivoli – from June 18 to July 15, 2014)
promoted by the Lazio Region and produced by Fondazione Musica per Roma in collaboration with MIBAC, hosted in the beautiful location of the Great Baths in Tivoli, added to the list of World heritage sites by Unesco. You could attend to performances of music, theater and dance by international artists from Brazil, USA, France, Germany, Australia, Holland and Uganda.

Teatro alle Terme di Caracalla (Theatre at the Baths of Caracalla – from June 24 to August 9, 2014). A unique show that is repeated for years in one of the most fascinating archaeological sites of the city, the Baths of Caracalla. From Bizet’s Carmen, accompanied by the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, to Swan Lake, passing through Roberto Bolle, The Tokyo Ballet, La Boheme and The Barber of Seville, the calendar is pretty full.

Rome will satisfy even the younger audience with various concerts and music festivals

Back to the city the great festival of rock music at Ippodromo delle Capannelle, in the company of national and international music stars. Prodigy, Queens of the Stone Age, Arcade Fire, Metallica, Black Keys, Placebo are just a few of the big names present.

Roma incontra il mondo (Rome meets the world – from July 6 to September 10, 2014), Reached its twenty-first edition, this event brings together artists from all over the world. Luglio suona bene (July sounds good – from June 23 to July 30, 2014) within the cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, conceived and designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. Many events characterized by different music genres and styles, in one of the most beautiful music “temple” in Rome. With internationally renowned names such as Massive Attack, Robert Plant, James Blunt, Damon Albarn, Rufus Wainwright, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, The National, Simple Minds and many others.

Music, dance, opera, ballet, entertainment, culture, Rome will not leave you alone in the hot summer evenings. But if you want to relax and enjoy the semi-deserted city, then you just need to take a long promenade by night and lose yourself in the beauty of the Eternal City, admiring the greatest outdoor museum and its golden light.
