Rome: green utopias of Ettore Favini

The flapping of a butterfly’s wings can change the world. Small gestures, big consequences. In Rome this message had arrived with the Dutch Bik Van der Pol: their “butterfly house” staged at the MACRO – winning work Enel Contemporanea Award 2010 – was an invitation ecological activism. Symbols of the fragility of our ecosystem, the butterflies, the species most sensitive to climate change, key indicators of the health of the air, are also featured in the work of the artist Ettore Favini that Cremona, February 26 (opening hours 19 ) April 5, the Pastificio Ceres of Rome, has two exhibition projects Verdecurato from you and … Postcard from … Ettore Favini. The butterflies fly over the city clean. Original reflections on the relationship between man and nature.

The exhibition Verdecuratoda … you (which is part of a larger project which began in 2005) is a real action to implement in the first person a metamorphosis of the environment. How? From a sculpture-distributor, take (with coins of 1 €) balls containing seeds of plants, bushes and flowers useful to life, reproduction and feeding of butterflies. Inside each ball are the instructions for planting the seeds correctly. The goal is to create the largest plant sculpture in the world. On the site (www.verdecuratoda.com) can indicate the exact location of the seed, send pictures of the seedlings germinate and find out where are the distributors in the city. In addition to purchasing the seeds can contribute to the project with a donation to the Ethical Bank.

Verdecuratoda … you have your ideal continuation in The butterflies fly over the city clean, always signed by Favini. It is a poster that is part of Postcard from …, the project aims to disseminate contemporary art in the urban context: Italian and international artists are invited to create a large image (400×300 cm) to be affixed in courtyard of Pastificio Ceres but also in various advertising of Rome provided by APA (Advertising Agency Billboard). The butterflies are chosen by Italian Ettore Favini and, unfortunately, almost completely disappeared from our cities. That’s why you have to bring them back.
