MedFilmFestival, Cinema Fosters Dialogue

MedFilmFestival is Rome’s oldest festival, founded 18 years ago and organised by Ginella Vocca. The only Italian event dedicated to Mediterranean cinema and socio-cultural exchange, MedFilm celebrates its 18th birthday with a special edition hosted at the Auditorium della Conciliazione, the Casa del Cinema and the former Cine Avorio film theatre. The festival offers a rich programme of roughly 100 events, including films, short films, documentaries and speakers’ events with famous artists, and aims to represent and promote artistic and cultural dialogue between the countries bordering the Mediterranean.
As usual, there will be two special themes. One focus will be on the North, on Slovenia, one of European cinema’s most productive countries. The festival will also cast an eye towards Slovenia’s neighbouring countries, Serbia and Croatia. Another focus will be on the South, where the emphasis will be on films from the Arab Spring countries, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey and Libya, in a bid to share thoughts on their socio-political prospects.
The public of MedFilm festival take a journey that goes from the Balkan states, along the edge of the Sahara, and up to Asia’s doorstep. It is a meaningful journey that aims to discuss the changes taking place in Europe and the Mediterranean not only from an artistic standpoint.
