…….. Two of the last imposing buildings were constructed by order of the emperor Maxentius at the beginning of the 4th century AD. They were the temple dedicated to his son Romulus and the basilica on the Velia ridge, which was rebuilt at the end of the century. The very last monument put up in the forum was the column in honor of the Byzantine emperor Phocas dated 608 AD.
Recent projects to enhance the area have included numerous excavations and new organization of the whole archaeological sector to allow the public to take an unforgettable walk in the heart of the ancient city spanning the area from the Colosseum to the Campidoglio.
Half an hour sunset and until 2 am the area of the roman forum and arch of septimus severus are illuminated by 40 low-consumption spotlights so that anyone walking along via dei fori imperial or looking down from the campidoglio belvedere can admire all the monuments still standing.
