Artisan beer enthusiasts now number 3 million, making it the alcoholic beverage of choose for the under 40s and causing a boom in consumption and production in Rome and the Lazio region, Bars, beershops and brewpubs have sprung up 
everywhere and hundreds of restaurants offer a special beer list alongside their traditional wine list. The success has persuaded 8 small artisan breweries ( Atlas Coelestis, Birra del Borgo, Birra Turan, Birrificio Ostiense Artigianale, Free Lions, Itineris, Mister Malto, and Turbacci ) to form the Lazio Beer Association. In addition to the 93 individual labels already existing, the mini-breweries belonging to the Association will be creating “La ZIa Ale” (a play on thr name of the region), the first beer 100% made in Lazio with raw materials from the region.
