Civitavecchia a fully equipped port of Rome
Civitavecchia is a testimony of the great work of Romans on Lazio territory since the Prehistoric age. Situated at only 80 km from Rome, it presents primitive traces and was born in very ancient times, during Traiano Empire (107-108 D.C.) with the aim of providing Rome with a fully equipped port. Born simultaneously with the town of Centumcellae, the area preserves numerous traces of primitive settlements which, for example, can be found on the Civitavecchia coastline: many Etruscan, Roman, and Medieval structures that have made the town such an important urban center that, ever since the times of the ancient Urbe, it has been known as the Port of Rome.
