A sci-fi movie scenario? A painting? No, is just Lake Reschen “Lago di Resia”, a one of a kind lake located in Trentino Alto Adige (Sud Tyrol) region, not far from the pass that forms the border with Austria and Switzerland. An artificial lake which creation started in 1940 to obtain electricity and submerged several villages. The lake is famous for the steeple of a submerged 14th-century church that, when the water freezes, can be reached on foot. A legend says that during winter one can still hear church bells ring.

Lake Sauris, Italy

Bolsena Lake, Italy

Lake Bolsena

Let’s move towards central Italy, Lazio more precisely. We are talking about the largest of the volcanic lakes of the region. Every lake has in store a secret, indeed buried under the blue water of the lake are hidden the remains of the Villanovan (Iron Age) village of “Gran Carro” a place rich of charm that makes it an ideal destination for diving and mystery lovers. The submerged village extends for 7 hectares, but is not the only worth mentioning. The lake worths a visit also for the tidy and lovely villages that give onto the lake, creating a perfect frame.

Lake Como

Now it’s Lombardia turn. The famous lake Como is surrounded by historic dwellings and enchanted gardens. On top of that, on the second deepest lake of Europe, you can do any kind of aquatic sport, while admiring its timeless splendor. Varenna and Tremezzo are among the most suggestive villages that surround the lake and its dramatic scenery. Deep-blue waters set against the rugged, forested foothills of the Alps. Not enough? All along the coast are luxury hotels, some with swimming pools that float in the lake.

Lake Caldonazzo

Last stop of this chapter is located in Trentino region. Did you know that this is South Europe’s hottest lake? Bathing in fact is possible from june to september, when the lake waters are definitely pleasant, between 20 and 24 degrees. Not for nothing it is famous for water sports: from swimming, passing through canoeing, windsurfing and even aquajogging if you fancy that. Enchanting nature and lakeside sports; there are four sailing clubs. With regard to wildlife, despite the large-scale area population, it is not unusual to spot various species of birds of prey, especially in the afternoon hours.
